Korean Men's Life Expectancy Now Above OECD Average

Korean men who are now 65 years old can expect to live on average another 18.2 years, above the OECD average for the first time by a couple of months.

Korean women now aged 65 can expect to live a full year longer than the OECD average. Among the group's 35 member countries, Korea has the 12th longest average lifespan.

Looking further into the future, babies born in Korea last year have a life expectancy of 82.1 years with women expected to outlive men by a little over six years.

Meanwhile, the most common cause of death in the country remains cancer, which claims over a quarter of men and about 16 percent of women.
