MBC 'Drama Kingdom' Director Choi Jong-soo Passes

Director Choi Jong-soo, who led MBC to be the 'drama kingdom' in the 1980s and 1990s, passed away. He was 76 years old.

According to the bereaved family on the 31st, PD Choi was treated for complications after collapsing due to cerebral infarction and closed his eyes at 7 PM the previous day.

The deceased is a broadcaster who has directed dramas for more than 30 years. After graduating from Sogang University's Department of Trade, he joined MBC in 1973. Starting with the investigative true story drama "The Investigation Team Leader" (1980) starring Choi Bul-am, he produced "Hwang Jin" (1982), "First Love" (1985), "Downpour" (1986), "Love and Ambition" (1987), "Myungtae" (1993) and "You and I" (1997).

Representative works include "Love and Ambition" and "You and I". The former was loved by many and was remade on SBS in 2006. The latter had 66.9% of viewership in the final episode.

The deceased served as the CEO of MBC Productions in 2001, and taught students as an adjunct professor at Sungkyunkwan University the following year. In 2010, he directed the drama "Gourmet" based on the original cartoon by Huh Young-man on SBS. The last movie is the MBC drama "Kim Soo Ro" (2010). He collapsed due to a cerebral infarction while working.

The mortuary is set up in the VIP room of the mortuary of Hallym University Sacred Heart Hospital in Pyeongchon, Gyeonggi-do. At 6:30 PM on the 2nd, the funeral site is Yongin Catholic Memorial Park, the parish of Seoul National University.
