Shoppers Find Luxury Brands Much Cheaper Online

Online shoppers who buy luxury brands online from overseas sellers feel they are nearly one-third cheaper than in offline stores here.

In a survey by the Korea Consumer Agency of 1,000 people who bought products online over the past year, 26.7 percent of respondents said they purchased luxury brand items.

The most popular brand was Gucci with 22.1 percent, followed by Prada (19.5 percent), Chanel (15.7 percent), Louis Vuitton (12.0 percent) and Hermes (3.7 percent).

Bags were the most popular items with 58.1 percent, followed by wallets and fashion accessories (22.8 percent), clothing and shoes (13.9 percent) and cosmetics (4.5 percent).

Most products were bought from the U.S. with 73.2 percent, 7.8 percent from China and 6.6 percent from Japan.

Respondents shopped online on average six times a year and spent an average of W270,000, ranging from W10,000 to W9 million per purchase (US$1=W1,126).
