[Event] Drama Talk: Third Annual Bay Area Chuseok Festival Goes Virtual

Although love for Korea, its culture, television, music, beauty, and film has grown exponentially over the past 20 years, 2021 is the year when the voice of Korea has resounded loudest across the global stage. With the pandemic halting many events, travel, and activities, the world has turned online for entertainment and learning. Digital spaces have crafted global connections between people and countries that have bloomed beyond expectation. From October 20, 2021 to October 27, 2021, one special non-profit organization will make the best of these digital spaces in celebration of Korean culture and heritage.

That organization is KCI (Korean Center, Inc.). It serves the community by providing informational, educational, and social services to underserved immigrant and other communities in the San Francisco Bay Area. The non-profit has held the Bay Area Chuseok Festival since 2019 to celebrate Korean culture, cuisine, music, arts and community. This year it has gone virtual with a special celebration of the strength and resilience of the Bay Area community in the face of the pandemic and anti-Asian hate crimes. It is HanCinema's pleasure to be a part of this festival that not only celebrates a local community, but crosses continents and oceans in celebration of Korean culture and heritage.

Inspired by Korea's yearly harvest festival called Chuseok, the Bay Area Chuseok Festival highlights Korean food and drink, Korean music and K-pop, Korean folktales, Korean drama, Korean American talent and Congresswoman Marilyn Strickland, and more to both introduce and enrich understanding of Korea, its people, and its culture. In particular, HanCinema's will be joining the "K-Folklore to K-drama: Origin Stories Behind Your Favorite Dramas" panel with Rakuten Viki and YouTubers DKDKTV on October 26, 2021 at 8pm PST. The lore behind favorite dramas "Guardian: The Lonely and Great God", "My Roommate Is a Gumiho", and "Tale of the Nine Tailed" has long been a fascinating subject for drama lovers and we're excited to talk about it.
