Han Sang-jun named PiFan festival director

The Puchon International Fantastic Film Festival (PiFan) has named Han Sang-jun to serve as festival director for the next three years.

Han, who last year served as head programmer, has also worked as a professor at ChungAng University and as a programmer for the Pusan International Film Festival.

He will replace film director and former festival director Lee Jang-ho, who was named one of two vice chairmen on the festival's organizing committee. Lee headed thefestival during its tenth anniversary edition last year, during which time PiFan tried to repair its relationship with the film industry following the firing of popular festival director Kim Hong-joon in 2005.

This year's event is scheduled for July 12-21, and according to Han will feature approximately 200 films –a reduction in scale from last year's 10th anniversary edition. He also said that he hopes to diversify the festival's focus on horror to science fiction, thriller and other such genres.

Also this week, actress Kang Soo-yeon ("The Surrogate Woman"), actor Park Joong-hoon ("Radio Star") and filmmaker Lee Mi-rye were elected to the festival's organizing committee.
