[HanCinema's News] British Distributor of "Parasite" Hits Bonanza With Oscar Win

Images from the British film distribution company Curzon Artifical Eye have gone viral in the wake of "Parasite"'s four wins at the Academy Awards, including Best Picture. Employees at Curzon Artificial Eye are clearly in a celebretory mood, with social media posts confirming that their e-mail inbox has been wrecked following the victory.

Curzon Artifical Eye owns the local distribution rights for "Parasite" in the United Kingdom and released the film in theaters there on February 7th. Curzon Artifical Eye does not normally release film in multiplexes, as they are typically focused on secondary distribution. Their previous theatrical release was "The Handmaiden" back in 2017.

Like "Parasite", "The Handmaiden" was released in the United Kingdom in the year following its Korean distribution. This is because English language markets in general tend to have poor distribution of non-English films. "Parasite"'s late release was likely intended to capitalize on its Academy Award nominations, although Curzon Artifical Eye, much like other persons and organizations connected to "Parasite", was not necessarily expecting it to win big.
