[HanCinema's News] "Crazy Romance" Breaks Expectations

In the month since its initial release "Crazy Romance" has amassed over 2.85 million admissions at the box office. This has allowed the romantic comedy to break the performance of "On Your Wedding Day" from 2018, which closed its time in the box office out at only 2.82 million admissions.

Both movies are still behind the all time leaders in the romance genre, as "Architecture 101" and "A Werewolf Boy" from 2012 earned over four million and six million box office viewers respectively. However, the success of "Crazy Romance" still came as a surprise given the relative weakness of the romantic comedy genre in recent years, as well as the genre's historical weakness when competing against romantic dramas.

Persons close to the production of "Crazy Romance" credit the movie's performance on the story, which focused on the workplace as much as it did on romance. The interplay between Kong Hyo-jin and Kim Rae-won was also cited as a high point. Additionally, the relative scarcity of romantic comedies in the last year was considered a factor in allowing the movie to feel fresh.
