[HanCinema's News] Han So-hee Embroiled in Controversy Over Past Smoking and Tattoos

Actress Han So-hee has been having an excellent year. Her latest drama, "The World of the Married", where the young actress is second lead, has been the latest ratings hit, starting from a modest 6% to a commanding 14% rating in its timeslot. Han So-hee has been a big part of this, her performance in the drama earning rave reviews. But the emergence of old photos has made Han So-hee a hot topic for reasons beyond her acting.

In the photos, Han So-hee can be seen smoking a cigarette and also has visible tattoos on her arms. The pictures predate Han So-hee's career as an actress, dating back to her modeling days. In fact, Han So-hee no longer even has the tattoos, as they had been removed. The pictures make for a startling contrast to her present day image and have inspired debate as to the extent they even matter.

Han So-hee is, after all, only twenty-five years old. Tattoos are popular among young people in South Korea these days. Smoking, not so much. Other celebrities such as G-Dragon and Ji Chang-wook have also been criticized for making social media posts that appear to glamorize cigarette use.

However, in these cases the chief reason behind the relevant controversies was that they were misusing their celebrities platforms to promote cigarettes. Han So-hee did not have a celebrity platform at the time these pictures were taken. And Han So-hee's popularity is, to date, fairly modest, as "The World of the Married" has only just aired its fourth episode.
