[HanCinema's News] Jung Soo-han Talks About "The Love in Your Eyes"

With opening ratings of 16.1% in its 1st episode and 17.3% ratings in the final, 123rd episode, "The Love in Your Eyes" had a fairly typical popularity arc for a South Korean daily evening soap opera. Bae Noo-ri starred in the leading role as the daughter-in-law to a traditional beef bone restaurant, her husband dying the same day her daughter was born, finding love again. But it's been Jung Soo-han in a secondary role that attracted outsized attention among fans.

Jung Soo-han plays the heroine's younger brother-in-law, a close friend who is always just a close friend, involved in his own romantic subplot with Kim Ga-ran. In a recent interview, Jung Soo-han claimed he was initially nervous to take on such a long-ter commitment- his only other screen projects to date had been in films. Jung Soo-han credited his more experienced co-stars for being able to help put him at ease and make him feel comfortable as he strived to work hard and do his best.

Jung Soo-han said he was sorry to separate from them, particularly as "The Love in Your Eyes" was his first particularly intense project, making that separation all the more regrettable. Jung Soo-han also said that he's thought a lot about taking on another such project. In regard to a specific co-star, Jung Soo-han claimed that Kim Ga-ran was quite similar to her character. Any time he had an idea, Kim Ga-ran would stylishly and encouragingly support giving it a try.

In the case of erotic scenes, for example, Jung Soo-han would often suggest intensifying them, or adding more comedy to them, or simply omitting them altogether. For viewers, this resulted in a very broadly intimate relationship between the characters, further heightening their appeal. Jung Soo-han would also hype himself up for their scenes on the way to work by looking at Kim Ga-ran's picture and thinking, today I go to see my wife.

According to Jung Soo-han, much of screenwriter Na Seung-hyun's concept for "The Love in Your Eyes" was to break the mold of a standard family drama with frank discussion of non-marital relations. So Jung Soo-han's suggestions were seen as very on-brand. There were many revisions of the script and discussion of those revisions with Na Seung-hyun as well as director Ko Yeong-tak. Jung Soo-han has no confirmed upcoming screen projects.
