[HanCinema's News] KBS Dramas Caught in An Embarrassing Slump

With ratings of 2.5% for the latest episode of "Fix You" and 1.6% ratings for the latest episode of "Born Again" KBS drama have entered into a depression. The television network has little to show for itself and no one to blame for the inability of their dramas to connect with viewers. After all, with ratings of 5.2% and 4.1% in the early weeks, "Fix You" and "Born Again" both clearly started out with a fighting chance only to squander it.

Nor is the problem a particularly recent one. "Meow, the Secret Boy" and "How to Buy a Friend" both featured comparably unimpressive ratings. The return to dramas for KBS has been especially disappointing because these were the same timeslots that had such hits as "When the Camellia Blooms" and "The Tale of Nokdu" in 2019. But the newer titles simply aren't connecting.

Already KBS is looking to the next round of dramas to try and rejuvenate the network's brand, although it is unclear whether the dramas to come will have much more success. "Into The Ring" reunites the cast and crew of "Justice", a modest, but reliable performer for KBS last summer. "To All The Guys Who Loved Me" is in more dubious territory, with recognizable stars that have not had recent hits. However, it is often difficult to predict which dramas will be successful. All that can be done is to try and hope for the best.
