[HanCinema's News] Kim Tae-ri talks about "Twenty Five Twenty One"

"Twenty Five Twenty One" concluded on April 3rd to high ratings in South Korea on tvN and similarly impressive numbers internationally via Netflix. The retrospective romance drama stars Kim Tae-ri as an aspiring fencer back at the turn of the century. In a recent interview, Kim Tae-ri has spoken about her experiences on the show. According to Kim Tae-ri, screenwriter Kwon Do-eun had been talking about the project for over two years.

Kim Tae-ri credited the show finally getting produced and finished to her perseverance. Kim Tae-ri also claimed that the passion shown to the project by Kwon Do-eun as well as the rest of the cast and crew continued right until the end. Kim Tae-ri expressed particular fondness for her character, stating that she wished there was more of a chance to continue playing her in the future and not really coming to grips with the fact that this wasn't really possible.

Kim Tae-ri showed some surprise at feeling this way, describing her own personality in general as being an unrepentant one. When something unfortunate happens, Kim Tae-ri typically responds by just going that it can't be helped. Even so, Kim Tae-ri wished that she could turn back the clock and enjoy her time on "Twenty Five Twenty One" just a little longer. Kim Tae-ri emphasized that this was how much the project meant to her personally.

Kim Tae-ri claimed that this enthusiasm showed through in her performance. Just as she wanted to do a good job with the role, so too did her character want to do a good job of fencing. Kim Tae-ri noted that, for her character, fencing is final to her very existence. It's too inextricably linked to her character. Consequently, Kim Tae-ri had to undergo an intense but fun training regiment so that she knew how to fence herself. This was all so she could do a better job with the role.

Other factors to the performance were not so important to prepare for. Through her work on "Mr. Sunshine" Kim Tae-ri already had a good understanding of the dialect she needed to use for the role. Romance in general was more of a challenge, as Kim Tae-ri had not done a romantic leading role before. Nevertheless, as her character also had a weak understanding of love, Kim Tae-ri found that she was able to use that to her advantage.
