[Ishani's Picks] "Blind - 2022" Sets Up A Brilliant Premise That Is Bound To Make For An Unforgettable Journey

The highly anticipated thriller "Blind - 2022" is finally here and it is every bit as dark, gritty and suspenseful as we thought it would be. It premiered to average ratings of 3.4% in South Korea but the response it has received from international fans is particularly extraordinary.

Starring Ok Taec-yeon as Ryoo Seong-joon, Ha Seok-jin as Ryu Sung-hoon, and Jeong Eun-ji as Jo Eun-ki, "Blind - 2022" tells the story of two brothers, one a passionate but violent detective and the other, an upright but distrustful judge, and a young social worker who has been wronged one too many times in her life and as such, has a strong sense of justice. Their fates are entangled as they get involved in a serial murder case and seek to find the truth.

A flashback suggests a traumatic past for Seong-joon that quite possibly damaged his psyche for life and continues to haunt him in the present time. Seong-joon's violent tendencies have manifested themselves since his teenage years, which worries Sung-hoon, even more so when his brother gets framed for murder. There's a cold tension between them, with Seong-joon constantly seeking validation from his older brother, only to receive allegations of crime in return. There's something strange about his parents too but it's not evident enough to put a finger on yet.

What is truly intriguing is that we have no way of believing that Seong-joon does not, in fact, have criminal inclinations, especially with how strikingly Taec-yeon portrays the dark side. Now, that could be a red herring or an indication that there's more to the story than meets the eye.

Some possibilities include an evil alter-ego stemming from trauma or worse, a conscious double life. Alternatively, we could be looking in the wrong direction entirely, and perhaps we should focus our attention on the mysterious older brother instead. It is going to be quite the joyride trying to figure out the answer, and I cannot wait to see what happens next.
