Park Chan-wook named jury member at Venice

Korean director Park Chan-wook has been selected as a jury member of the upcoming 63rd Venice International Film Festival. Actress Catherine Deneuve (France) will be the jury president. Director and screenwriter Juan Jose Bigas Luna (Spain); producer Paulo Branco (Portugal); director, producer and screenwriter Cameron Crowe (U.S.); and actress Chulpan Khamatova (Russia) round out this year's Venice jury.

The Italian city of Venice will host the festival from August 30 until September 9. During that period the jury will choose winners of the Golden Lion (best film), Silver Lion (best director), Special Jury Prize, Coppa Volpi (one for best actor and one for best actress), Marcello Mastroianni Award (best young actor or actress), and Osella (one for best technical contribution and one for best screenplay).

Park Chan-wook was presented with three awards from smaller juries at last year's Venice International Film Festival for "Sympathy for Lady Vengeance". Other awarded Korean films at the festival's previous editions include Kim Ki-duk's "3-Iron", Lee Chang-dong's "Oasis" (both winners of the Best Director award) and Im Kwon-taek's "The Surrogate Woman" (which won Best Actress for the performance of Kang Soo-yeon).
