Online retail shop Gmarket said Sunday its golf-related sales for the last 30 days, during which Korea had to bear the brunt of toxic smog, were up 25 percent on-year. Sales of golf clubs and balls rose by 51 percent and 50 percent, respectively. Sales of golf shoes also increased by 32 percent, and golf bags by 36 percent.

In contrast, sales of baseball-related products were down 3 percent and sales of other leisure and sporting goods and accessories remain sluggish, as more people shunned outdoor activities.

According to the Korea Golf Association, the number of people who enjoy golfing in Korea rose by 43 percent from 5.31 million in 2014 to 7.61 million in 2017. Among them, those in their 20s and 30s increased from 24.9 percent to 36.6 percent.
