Seo Se-won Gets Suspended Sentence for Strangling Wife

TV personality Seo Se-won was given a two-year suspended sentence Thursday for assaulting his wife of more than 30 years during an argument last year.

The Seoul Central District Court said although Seo denies strangling his wife, Seo Jung-hee, her testimony was consistent, detailed and credible. CCTV footage of the assault and pictures of her injuries matched her account.

The court added that the husband had shown no remorse, admitting only the assaults that were caught on camera while denying other battery charges. However, the court took into account that the assault was not premeditated but committed in a fit of rage and that Seo deposited W5 million in settlement (US$1=W1,092).

Seo was indicted last year of battering his wife. She filed for divorce in July after 32 years of marriage.
