According to statistics, each of the three broadcasting companies showed at least 4~5 historical dramas a year. Starting from 2008 and 2009 the number of epic dramas and long term dramas decreased, and there were more fusion historicals instead, increasing the number of historicals every year.

However, the viewer ratings have been showing decrease. TNmS says, "Out of 13 dramas only two ("Queen Seon-deok" 35.4% and "Iljimae" 23.1%) rated over 20% in 2008 and 2009. Out of 9 in 2010 the KBS2 drama "The Slave Hunters" (31.7%) and the MBC drama "Dong Yi" (24.5%) managed to go over 20%, showing that the numbers don't relate to the length of the dramas".
