Some 80 percent of available seats, or 323,200 tickets, were sold in advance of the film's first showings on Wednesday.

This beats the current record of 260,000 tickets set by "The Admiral: Roaring Currents" among Korean films.

The new film also posted the highest first-day booking rate ever for a July release, including Hollywood blockbusters.

"Train to Busan" tells the desperate struggle of passengers aboard a Busan-bound train from Seoul against a group of zombies that carry a deadly virus.
